These pyrotechnic products are used for both civil and military purposes in Search and Rescue (SAR) operations.
Most of them have been improved to generate high visibility (up to 34 Nautical Miles...) and long duration (from 10 to 20 seconds or more) - night or day - even in marine conditions.
PenGun type devices project signals to an altitude of 300 m using rocket propulsion. Adaptable to specific air force requirements.
Lacroix also manufactures marine location markers designed to be launched from helicopters or rescue aircraft to indicate the ship's or crew's position in the sea. The markers generate smoke and flare and/or fluorescent dye, with a duration up to 90 minutes and a distance up to 9 km.
428 A signal: The 428A SAR flare is designed to provide distressed airmen and sailors with a means to report their position by day or night, on land and at sea. One 428A red star can be seen for up to 34 nautical miles in clear weather, for approximately 11 seconds. The easy-to-use six-shot kit with pen flare, a plastic holder and is supplied in a waterproof pouch which prevents aerial flares from being exposed to adverse elements.
328-8 Signal : The 328-8 SAR flare is designed to provide distressed airmen and sailors with a means to report their position by day or night, on land and at sea. One 328-8 star can be seen for up to 34 nautical miles in clear weather for approximately 11 seconds. Two red stars out of six contain chaff to provide radar visibility. The easy-to-use six-shot kit comes with an ejecting device and a plastic holder. It is supplied in a waterproof pouch which prevents aerial flares from being exposed to adverse elements.
428 90B Signal : The 428-90B flare provides either soldiers or distressed personnel with a means to report their position by day or night, on land and at sea. One 428-90B star can be seen for up to 34 nautical miles in clear weather for approximately 11 seconds. A practice version is available for training with a white star instead. This easy-to-use kit is supplied in a transparent pouch which prevents flares from being exposed to water and moisture. It is composed of four red flares, each of them comprising a single-shot launcher and a self-propelling rocket.
428 Rainbow :The 428 Rainbow flare provides either soldiers or distressed personnel with a means to report their position by day or night, on land and at sea. One 428 Rainbow star can be seen for up to 34 nautical miles in clear weather for approximately 11 seconds. The easy-to-use kit comes in a transparent pouch which contains four items of the same colour. Four different colours are available -red, white, orange, and green - which may be combined into various codes to be determined by users (i.e. red for a no go, green for landing clearance).
252A Day & Night : The 252A SAR device is designed to provide distressed airmen and divers with a dual-purpose signal to report their position on land, rivers and at sea. It is used : either with a red smoke signal by day or with a red flare at night. Both signals are activated independently, one remaining available even if the other one has previously been used. The 252A is waterproof and can therefore be employed for scuba diving to a depth of 70 m.
